Specter Family - Chapter 1

Another week has passed and we have another couple of homes to visit here in Area 62. Our first stop today is at the home of Olive Specter and her niece Ophelia Nigmos. A lot of speculation has surrounded the old Specter house so Ophelia tries to fill us in on this. Ophelia.

Hi. Let me first tell you all that I didn't hang around with my Aunt Olive for long. Most of what I'm telling you I heard from, uh, sources.

Uh, okay. What are your sources?

I can't tell you. I never compromise my sources.

Okay but can you at least continue sharing with us what has been going on?

Right, yeah, okay. So, everyone around here knows that my Aunt Olive is pretty shady. I mean she was married like four times and all of her husbands died not long after they married her. So when my mom and dad mysteriously died and I found out I had to go live with her I was NOT pleased. I mean she was just creepy. I didn't care that she had loads of money from all the guys she married and then, well, they died. I saw what happened with her latest, vict--husband, Icabod. It was not pretty.

So like I said, I got out of there as fast as I could. I found out that my boyfriend, Johnny, had left to go to college so I decided it was time for me to do the same. So, I got my scholarships in order and I left without even saying good-bye to my aunt. Its not like we were close anyway.


So I went off to La Fiesta Tech and then I hear that my aunt had started to date ANOTHER guy. This guy's name was Douglas Kim. I wanted to go back and scream at him to get out of there as fast as he could. He couldn't have had any idea my crazy aunt's history. If he had, why in the world would he have started dating her??? So I find out they are going on dates and kissing and stuff, ugh!
I seriously don't see what the old fool saw in my Aunt Olive. She's just down right creepy! But they were spending a lot of dinners together.
Well, I guess this guy just didn't get it! I wanted to warn him but I was too scared. I mean, my aunt was SHADY! I seriously wanted to stop him from asking her to marry him. What was he thinking?
I didn't go to their wedding. There was NO way I could. If I went I wouldn't have been able to keep quiet about my Aunt Olive's past. So I just saw pictures later. The guy should have taken off running!
It turned out that Douglas really wanted to have a family and since my aunt was WAY too old to have kids they decided to adopt a kid. My aunt seemed to get tears in her eyes when they talked about kids. I had always heard rumors that she had had a baby sometime ago but nobody knows anything about it and honestly, I've never seen a cousin anywhere. But anyway, they figured they were too old to deal with a baby or a toddler so they adopted a little boy who was about seven. His name is Anthony. Poor kid had no idea what a nut case he was getting for a mother.
Douglas was pretty cool though. He welcomed Anthony with open arms. At least the kid will have a somewhat normal father. Although I wonder how normal because he DID marry my aunt.
Well, I have to say it was kind of sad for poor Anthony because the same day that he came to live with Douglas and Aunt Olive, my Aunt Olive died. Can you imagine getting a mom and then loosing her all in the same day? Poor kid.

But like I said, Death came to collect my crazy old aunt and it was weird. It was like they KNEW each other. I mean, I know my aunt was weird and all and there are all kinds of rumors going around about her massive cemetery but still, why did Death act like he knew her? Why would Death HUG her and why in the world would she HUG him back? It was totally weird.
So, here is where things get real, crazy. My aunt is dead right and she is totally loaded from all those dead husbands so we were waiting to hear about her will. The executer was some lawyer and he called up me and Douglas and Anthony and for some strange reason the messed up dude who the Beakers were torment for awhile before he ran off with Circe, Nervous Subject. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why in the world he was there but he was.

It was really weird sitting in that lawyer's office. I didn't say anything to anyone. Douglas just kind of sat there with Anthony, I think he knew he was set because my aunt would probably leave him the house. He looked genuinely sad about my aunt's death. And that was the first time I thought he might have married her for her money. Nervous looked, well, nervous. I don't think he knew why he was there either. I knew why I was there. I had lived most of my life with my crazy aunt and I held her responsible for my parent's death. I was there to get what I deserved. I'd lived with the crazy old coot for twelve years after all.

So when the lawyer came and laid the will out in front of us I couldn't believe what I saw:
First I noticed that I got NOTHING! After all I had been put through with her she left me nothing. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada. NOTHING! Not even the house! I was outraged. But when I looked at the will again I noticed what everyone else had noticed...Nervous was my aunt's kid! The rumors had been true! She DID have a baby. What happened to him and how he got to be at the Beakers no one seemed to know. He couldn't believe it. He apologized to me a whole bunch but I apologized to him because he had a nut case for a mother. He didn't know who his father was and I didn't either so I guess that is one mystery that went to the grave with my aunt.

Needless to say though, I was pretty mad at my aunt. Douglas felt bad too. It made me think that he really hadn't married her for her money because he offered to give him his portion. I told him I didn't want it and that it had finally severed me from her forever. I did feel kind of bad for him because while my aunt had left him a hefty amount of cash she had left the house to the city and so Douglas and Anthony had to move out. Whe he looked to me for an answer I just told him she was crazy.

That was all I really had to do with Douglas, but later I heard that he had adopted another kid. Another boy named Avri.


Wow, a lot has happened. I'm sorry to hear you got stiffed in the will, Ophelia.

Hey man, don't worry about it. I'm in college now. I'm finally free of that crazy old lady. I'm going to marry Johnny and I'll move in with him so I have no need of that freaky old house anyway.

You certainly are taking it well. Are there any plans for you to get to know your cousin Nervous better?

I don't know. The dude seems kinda messed up. I guess I would be too if I had Olive for a mother, an unknown father and had all sorts of crazy stuff done to me my Loki Beaker.

Maybe you can help him find his father.

I don't know about that. I mean, how are we ever going to find out. Knowing my aunt I wouldn't have been surprised if she had made a deal with the devil for him.
